Skating Underway at New Center
by Kyle Garmes
The Morgan Park Sports Center is open for business.
The new gymnastics, ice hockey and figure-skating center at 115th Street and Western Avenue was set to open to the public on Sept. 8, according to the Beverly Area Planning Association, but some young athletes were already able to practice in the facility a week earlier.
On Sept. 1, the St. Jude Knights Youth Hockey Club took to the ice, with several spectators in the stands watching the action.
Allison O’Boyle, of Chicago Ridge, was watching her son; his team formerly used Southwest Ice Arena, she said, but she’s happy with the new location.
“I love it. It’s nice, huge, bright—nice change,” Boyle said, “looking forward to many practices and games.”
